WHO ARE GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS?
Students who are Gifted and Talented have potentials beyond the average in intellectual, creative, socio-emotional or physical domains. They are at least at the top 10% of their age-group peers. Their achievement could be ascribed to appropriate application of training and practice.
HOW TO IDENTIFY GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS?
Academically Gifted and Talented students score high IQ and perform tasks effectively and creatively using innovative methods. They are characterised by having strong motivation in certain areas and prefer challenging tasks. They could possess advanced vocabulary, outstanding memory, high curiosity, extremely comfortable with abstract thinking, and have many interests and hobbies and passion in things that last for a long period of time.
WHO ARE THE GIFTED AND TALENTED STUDENTS?
Gifted and Talented students become extremely engaged in challenging activities. They do manifest careless manner of work and catches on very quickly. They postpone their work because they gather facts and contemplate solutions prior to taking actions. They usually think outside the box and are aware of global issues that are uninteresting to others. Some possess a sophisticated sense of humour. It is notable that they may be advanced beyond average in certain fields, but underachieving in some other areas.
WHAT SHOULD BE DONE?
There are adjustments which teachers need to account for to accommodate for classroom implications of students who are Gifted and Talented. Teachers should implement strategies to identify students who are Gifted and Talented. Once a student is identified, he/she should be involved in select appropriate programs such as various enrichment programs or some cases acceleration (engage with a higher stage studies) where support is particularly needed. Students could be involved in Extension course of their preferred KLA. It must be ensured that involvement in the Extension course eliminates what is repetitive, replacing it with advanced learning to keep Gifted and Talented students highly engagement. It is important to note that acceleration and enrichment does not mean just more work.

English Club adopts the enrichment method to address the needs of Gifted and Talented students. Enrichment means curriculum differentiation in instructions and assessment. The experienced teachers at English Club attempt to provide more discussion, group work and exploration of issues, implementing strategies such as Blooms Taxonomy, The maker model, Kaplan model, Williams Modal , ICT focussed programs and multiple intelligences approach: linguistic, logical-mathematical, spatial, musical, bodily-kinaesthetic, interpersonal, interpersonal, naturalistic and existential. Students are kept extremely engaged with challenging content where their minds are triggered to produce elaborated and sophisticated reponses.
